Strawberry Milkshake of Death — Radiator Destroys Transmission
The 2005 through 2007 Nissan Frontier has one of the most infamously nicknamed problems in truck history. Nissan placed the radiator directly above the transmission with coolant lines running through it. When the radiator seals fail, engine coolant drips directly into the transmission fluid. The two fluids combine into a thick pink sludge that mechanics call the Strawberry Milkshake of Death. This sludge destroys the transmission from the inside out. By the time symptoms appear the damage is already done. The same design flaw affects the Nissan Pathfinder and Xterra from the same era.
Estimated Repair Cost
$4,000 to $6,000 plus $1,500 for the radiator

2020 and 2021 Nine Speed Transmission Class Action
Nissan's transmission problems did not end with the 2005 through 2007 generation. The 2020 and 2021 Frontier introduced a new 9 speed automatic transmission that spawned a class action lawsuit filed in the Middle District of Tennessee. Owners report hesitation, clunking noises, lurching during acceleration, and erratic unpredictable shifting. Approximately 100,000 Frontiers sold in those two years are affected.

Recall Alert
🚨
Radiator Design Flaw on 2005 Through 2008 Models. No Formal Recall Issued.
Verify radiator was replaced or rerouted before purchasing
Nissan never issued a formal recall for the radiator and transmission contamination defect despite it destroying thousands of trucks. Before buying any 2005 through 2007 Frontier with an automatic transmission, ask specifically if the radiator was replaced with a post 2008 design or if the transmission fluid lines were rerouted outside the radiator.
